You want to drive hundreds of kilometers on vacation in your Tesla and are unsure how or if it's possible? Don't worry. Long distances are no longer a problem with electric cars these days. However, some preparation is still necessary.
Tesla long-distance driving – optimal preparation
Battery up to 100 percentFirst, the battery needs to be treated differently than in everyday life. usual, per 100 % to recharge in order to maximum range to have it available and not have to find a charging station shortly after departure.
Planning the charging stopsTo determine the approximate travel time, including charging stops, simply enter your destination once into the Tesla's onboard computer. The navigation system not only calculates the route to your destination but also automatically plans convenient stops at Supercharger stations. This computer optimization ensures you arrive at your destination comfortably and relaxed with the shortest possible charging time. – Finally, regular breaks will also help you stay fitter and more focused.
Incidentally, the on-board computer constantly monitors the route during the journey and also flexibly adjusts the charging plan, for example if consumption develops differently than planned due to rain, wind or high speeds.
Optimal driving speedSpeaking of high speeds: How fast should you drive to be as economical as possible and minimize charging? Well, if you want to achieve the official WLTP range, you should aim for an average speed of 47 km/h on your holiday trip. It's obvious that this is quite unlikely. If you want to drive particularly economically without going too slowly, you should set the cruise control to 100 km/h. However, the ideal combination of fuel efficiency and brisk progress on the motorway lies between 120 and 130 km/h, which is roughly the same speed as a combustion engine vehicle.
Although in Model calculations Higher speeds of around 160 km/h usually ensured the fastest overall arrival, but such an average speed will hardly be achievable or maintainable even in Germany – not to mention other countries.
