Summer is approaching – and with it come plenty of sunshine and high temperatures. This is generally good news for Tesla drivers, as electric cars are significantly more efficient in warmer weather than in winter. Nevertheless, there are a few tips to make your summer as comfortable and economical as possible. Learn the five most important ones in this article.
Tesla tips for the summer
Tip 1: Dog Mode
A car can heat up very quickly in the sun. This is not only unpleasant when getting in, but also a major problem if you want to leave your dog in the vehicle while you quickly run errands. Tesla has solved this problem with its so-called Dog Mode.
If this feature is activated in the climate control system, the air conditioning will remain active even when the vehicle is exited. Additionally, the current temperature and a message indicating that the dog is safe will be displayed on the screen to reassure passersby. The alarm system will also be deactivated, preventing it from being triggered by the dog's movements.
But beware: Dog Mode is only a short-term solution; animals should never be left alone for extended periods, especially in summer at high temperatures.
Tip 2: Vent function
If the Tesla has heated up considerably, there's a way to cool it down without using any electricity. Activating the vent function in the Tesla app opens all the windows slightly to allow hot air to escape. You can, of course, close the windows again using the app.
This is a practical method to cool the car down by a few degrees while saving energy.
Tip 3: The right sun protection
The Tesla glass roof is a beautiful feature, but in summer it can cause the interior to heat up extremely due to solar radiation.
At Teslabs you will find suitable Sunscreens, which will ensure a pleasant climate in your Tesla even in summer.
Tip 4: Climate settings
Clicking on the climate icon to access the climate settings reveals four options in the upper right corner: "Off", "On", "Dog" and "Camp".
While "Off" is relatively self-explanatory, "On" leaves the air conditioning switched on even when you leave the vehicle. – This is particularly useful if you're just popping out to the ATM. "Dog" activates the aforementioned dog mode, and "Camp" maintains the interior temperature, allows power supply via the USB ports, keeps the touchscreen active, and deactivates the alarm system.
Tip 5: Cabin overheating protection
The Model 3 has a so-called cabin overheating protection system. This is controlled via the vehicle —> The safety feature activates and switches on the air conditioner (or, depending on the setting, the fan) as soon as the indoor temperature exceeds 40°C. The protection remains active for up to 12 hours or until the battery level drops below 20%. % decreases.
Bonus tip: Leave it plugged in
If you have a charging option at home, you should leave your Tesla plugged in permanently – not to keep the battery fully charged (that would actually be harmful), but because then, when pre-conditioning is activated, the necessary power is drawn from the wall socket and not from the battery. This way, you have more range when you start driving.
