It's a problem that probably nobody outside of Germany is aware of: at high speeds, the steering of the Tesla Model Y can feel very unsettled. What is the reason for this?
Wobbly road holding of the Tesla Model Y
If you are driving quickly on the highway, some Model Ys can be quite wobbly on the road. Even very small steering inputs result in major directional changes, and the driver often has to intervene to keep the vehicle on track.
The Tesla is actually about a comfortable driving style in which the driver has to do as little as possible - and can rather enjoy the advantages of the comfortable car and its practical accessories .
The reason: Inaccurate track adjustment
Apparently, Tesla has quite a large tolerance when it comes to toe and axle settings ex works. In some cases, this can lead to the behavior described above at high speeds.
The only effective solution is therefore to re-measure the axles. Imbalance in the tires can also be a starting point. Tesla offers wheel alignment at its service centers, but many reports speak of high prices compared to independent workshops, which often also offer this service.
Helpful to know in an emergency: Setting the steering mode to "Sport" in the settings increases the necessary steering force and thus improves the behavior at least a little. In addition, an offset for the steering can be set in the Service Mode of the Model Y - if you are confident enough, you can also help yourself here. Here you can find more information about the Tesla Service Mode.
