When the charging port on a Tesla Model Y malfunctions, it often causes considerable surprise. Such a simple part – yet the consequences of a depleted battery are significant.
Tesla Model Y charging port: Opening attempts unsuccessful
It frequently happens to Model Y drivers that the charging port either doesn't open at all, or closes immediately – regardless of whether the command to open it is given via the vehicle display, the app, the Supercharger button or manually.
At least the flap doesn't stay open permanently; that would probably be even worse. In any case, it's a good idea to protect the charging ports with a Charging port cover to protect.
What is the cause?
The cause of the malfunctioning charging flap is usually a software bug, which sometimes even corrects itself over time.
You can, of course, also assist the process. The first approach is to reset the vehicle's computer using the steering wheel buttons. Here we have explained how to do this. Tesla Reset functions.
If that doesn't work, letting the Model Y go to sleep often proves helpful. This means: turning off all functions (including Sentry Mode), leaving the vehicle, the Tesla app Stop using and stop charging. This puts the Model Y into standby mode, which can fix many software bugs.
Furthermore, it can help to open all doors, as well as the frunk and trunk, or to hold the charging port open by hand (if it opens briefly) and plug in a charging cable.
