Some time ago, we reported on Teslas that honk unintentionally when stationary. As it turns out, however, unwanted noises can also occur while driving.
Tesla Model 3 beeps
After some time, many users find that their Tesla beeps at high frequencies in certain speed ranges and at certain temperatures. This noise can occur particularly when the vehicle is coasting, i.e. when it is neither accelerating nor recuperating.
Causes and solutions
If the Tesla beeps, the problem usually lies with the drive unit. Depending on the speed, the tooth flanks in the gearbox can cause such a buzzing noise, especially if the gearbox oil is (still) cold. The electrical capacitors can also be to blame, although a whirring noise from this source is more likely to occur during heavy acceleration.
In both cases, the noises are not a cause for concern, but rather normal, albeit annoying, operating noises. If you want, you can of course drive to the service center; success will usually be limited. The best solution is to install special accessories yourself, such as additional insulation under the rear seats.
