The Tesla Model 3 has an electric tailgate that can be opened in various ways and whose opening height can even be individually programmed – all in all very practical.
But what should you do if the automatic tailgate fails?
The problem
Occasionally, Tesla drivers report that the tailgate of their Model 3 only opens halfway, sometimes depending on whether it is opened via the display or from the outside.
Proposed solutions
Since the error often occurs after software updates and when opening the device via the display, a bug in the computer system is the prime suspect. This means: Ensure that the latest version is installed and, if so, wait for the next update.
The next potential source of error is the dampers installed in the tailgate, as well as the motor responsible for opening it, of which Tesla unfortunately only uses one. If the problem persists for an extended period and continues even after an update, a Repair appointment with a Tesla Ranger that will be the solution.
And last but not least, there's always the option of going to the Tesla service center.
