It's the nightmare scenario of every e-car and Tesla driver: you've miscalculated the distance and the battery level is approaching zero alarmingly quickly.
What can you do in such a situation - and how far can you get with the Tesla reserve?
Battery empty: How far can you get with the Tesla reserve?
The good news is that every Tesla has some reserve below 0 percent. However, depending on the weather and configuration, this is only between 10 and a maximum of 30 kilometers, sometimes even less. You should therefore only continue driving if there is a charging station or - for owners of a mobile charging station such as the Juice Booster - a power socket nearby.
Tesla reserve: better not to exhaust it
Furthermore, it is better not to test how far you can actually get, but to stop at the next suitable place and have friends or the tow truck tow you to the next charging point. Tow trucks often also have suitable sockets on board.
If you use up the reserve and break down, this can damage the battery or the 12 V battery. If the latter is completely flat, you won't even be able to charge your battery as the charging electronics will fail. As with a combustion engine, you will have to get jump-start assistance from another vehicle.
So it's better not to even try. In case of doubt, having your car towed away is cheaper and easier on your nerves than a broken battery.
You can also protect your battery by always charging it correctly. This also includes the optimum charge level - 100 or 90 percent ?
