For a long time, the Tesla Model Y was delivered without a trunk cover as standard. The part is now included in Tesla's scope of delivery, but it has been a long road to get there - which has produced numerous different Model Y versions.
Find out what these are and what you can do if you do not yet have a Model Y parcel shelf here.
Tesla Model Y parcel shelf: in-house designs dominated for a long time
It is unclear whether Tesla omitted the tray at the beginning for reasons of cost, pragmatism or conviction. The fact is that many early buyers of the Model Y didn't get one. Anyone who attached importance to this, for example for privacy or noise insulation, often had to either rely on covers from third-party suppliers or try their hand at constructing their own.
Luckily, this is no longer necessary today. If your Model Y is still missing a parcel shelf, you will find it at us. Please note, however, that the Teslabs trunk cover is only compatible with Model Y produced in Shanghai before May 2022.
Coverage from the manufacturer since mid-2022
Probably also due to pressure from the German or European customers, Tesla has since equipped all Model Ys from Shanghai with a parcel shelf. The models with trunk cover had already been spotted on the Asian market a few months earlier. Model Ys produced in Grünheide, Germany, were equipped with the tray almost from the start.
Model Y trunk cover now in its second version
The trunk cover initially introduced by the US carmaker was in three parts and, if you read user reports, rather unusable. For this reason, a second four-part version is now used in new Model Ys.
However,it is said to occurthat some of the remaining old covers are still being installed. There is probably no guarantee, which means that there is no reason for complaint.
It looks different when the steering wheel in the new Model Y is crooked and vibrations occur - which is probably not that rare.
