Tesla now offers five different paint finishes in its configurator, and two new colors are already available in Germany and elsewhere. Many people are asking themselves: How sensitive are the different paints? And are there differences between the various production sites
In this article, we therefore want to address the topic of paint quality at Tesla.
Tesla paint: quality is leveling off
The car manufacturer offers different paint techniques. White and red are so-called multi-coat paint finishes. Blue and gray are available as metallic paints and black is a uni-coat, i.e. the "simplest" form of paint without additives or other special features.
As Tesla drivers point out in the tff forum ,the paint layer on Tesla cars is generally quite thin and soft - regardless of the color chosen. However, it is also emphasized that the general quality of the paintwork has improved significantly since the first Model 3s from the USA.
Currently, vehicles from the Gigafactory Shanghai - which also generally delivers the highest quality of finish - probably achieve the best and most uniform paint finish.
However, it has also been shown that the different locations are becoming more similar in terms of quality over time - so with the "most advanced painting system" in Grünheide , this should soon also apply to the paint.
Tesla processing: susceptibility depends on paint properties
The susceptibility of the paint on Tesla is therefore not necessarily dependent on the processing. Rather, the color itself is the decisive factor.
The plain black paint, for example, looks good - but scratches and dirt are quickly visible. But it is also the easiest to repair. Blue tends to be less sensitive due to the uneven metallic look, but the light base coat is also a problem here.
The colors white and gray therefore require the least maintenance; only the insects in summer are more visible on these colors.
Which paint do you like best on Tesla - and which color did you choose?
