Tesla is one of the global market leaders in the automotive sector in terms of software, innovation and safety. Tesla is also getting a better grip on the Achilles heel of processing and production quality and can now keep up well with other manufacturers.
There are still a few little things that you have to address yourself as a Tesla customer. This includes the prone ventilation slot under the front seats of the Model Y, which we want to take a look at here.
Protecting the Tesla Model Y ventilation inlet
Under the front seats of the Model Y are air vents that are relatively unprotected ex works. Especially if there are often passengers in the back seat, there is a risk of dirt, stones and other foreign objects getting into the ventilation system.
This is annoying at best, because the performance of the ventilation system is naturally restricted and disturbing noises occur when foreign objects move back and forth while driving. In the worst case, however, it can be really expensive.
Removal can be complicated
Once foreign objects have been inserted into the ventilation ducts, it is often difficult or even impossible to remove them without major modifications. Depending on the situation, it may therefore be necessary to remove the rear seat or even the vehicle floor at the Service Center in order to bring the culprit back to light. It is obvious that this is not cheap, but costs many hundreds of euros.
The solution: Model Y ventilation grille
There is a simple solution to prevent the problem from arising in the first place: custom-fit Model Y ventilation grilles. These are installed under the front seats in no time at all using a click mechanism and effectively prevent foreign objects from entering. As the Model 3 suffers from the same problem, we naturally also have a suitable Model 3 ventilation grille for it.
Watch out for Model Y with BYD battery - exclusive solution from Teslabs
For some time now, Tesla has also been building Model Ys in the "standard range" version in Grünheide, Germany. Due to the new BYD battery in the vehicle floor, these differ in some details from models from other factories - including the jack mounts and the aforementioned ventilation slot.
The outlets in the Model Y Standard Range from Grünheide are significantly larger than in the other models. Standard ventilation grilles were therefore not suitable for this model. Something new was needed.
In 2023, Teslabs was the first store to introduce custom-fit ventilation grilles for Grünheide cars with BYD batteries. Months of development preceded the new product. Together with various Model Y drivers and a manufacturing partner, our team took precise measurements, developed and tested prototypes until the final grille was ready.
Just select when ordering which variant you drive and we will send you the right part. Not sure whether your Model Y comes from Grünheide? With our VIN decoder you can find out the model variant, production location and much more.
