At Tesla, car keys are obsolete: If you approach Model Y, Model 3 and Co. with your smartphone in your pocket, it unlocks automatically. If you move away, it locks - at least if automatic locking is activated. But even with this seemingly ingeniously simple system, there are a few things to bear in mind.
Tesla locking system: risk of theft in the event of carelessness
Tesla vehicles are among the safestand most comfortable cars around - also thanks to features such as the guard mode or practical accessories. The former, however, does not work if the vehicle is unlocked; and this happens faster than expected.
For example, as soon as you deactivate Bluetooth, the connection to the car is interrupted and the Tesla no longer closes when you move away. Similarly, the car will not lock if you leave your smartphone (or another smartphone acting as a key) in the car. Even if you lock the car with a keycard in this case, it can be opened again by third parties at any time.
However, it is advisable to take the keycard with you at all times in case the Tesla app malfunctions. However, make sure that your Tesla does not lock when you leave using only the keycard.
