Tesla Supercharger basics: charging plug, flap and co.

Charging at the Tesla Supercharger: Which plug is the right one? How do you open the door? Find out here!

Finding the way to the nearest Supercharger is child's play thanks to the Tesla navigation system, but the actual charging process can be a little tricky at first. We explain the basics you need to pay attention to.

Tesla Supercharger: Which plug?

Most Supercharger stations have two types of plug: Type 2 and CCS. The latter is the more modern system, which you should preferably use. You can distinguish the CCS plug from Type 2 by its two large, additional contacts.

Charging tip: If possible, use your own charging station to get the maximum charging power.

Tesla Model 3: Opening the charging flap

Once you have found the right plug, take it to the vehicle and press the button on the plug head to open the Tesla charging flap. If present, remove the cover and insert the plug. A green LED light indicates success. At the end of the process (LED lights up white), press the button again and pull out the plug.

Are Superchargers sustainable?
