You've done it: the "Order" button has been pressed and you'll soon be able to call your new Tesla your own. But what if you change your mind? If Tesla changes essential functions or the car does not meet your expectations on delivery?
In these cases, you can make use of your right of withdrawal and cancel the Tesla order. We explain what you need to bear in mind.
Canceling a Tesla order: How to cancel your Tesla purchase
As a Tesla is usually ordered online, you have the right to cancel the purchase up to 14 days after receipt of the goods, just like in any online store. This is to ensure that you can thoroughly check the features of the product you are buying (in this case, the car) before you finally agree to the purchase.
If you decide against your Tesla, you therefore have up to 14 days after delivery to submit your withdrawal to Tesla. Theoretically, this can even be done verbally, but it is of course better in written form. An informal letter to Tesla clearly stating that you wish to revoke the purchase contract is sufficient. It is not necessary to give reasons.
Tesla then has 14 days to refund the purchase price, after which the company is automatically in default. In the meantime, you should return the vehicle, including keys and documents, to the place where you picked it up.
By the way: As long as no final invoice is available in your account, you can change your Tesla order and thus possibly avoid a revocation - or you can invest in practical accessories and thus overlook any defects.
Cancel Tesla order 100 euros: Will I get my order fee back?
If you want to cancel your Tesla Model Y order, even if you have not yet received your vehicle and therefore have not yet paid the purchase price, this is of course also possible by canceling your order. The order fee of previously €100 and now €250 must also be refunded within 14 days.
Tesla order cancel costs
In principle, Tesla must refund the full purchase price. However, the manufacturer can claim a loss in value that arises if you use the vehicle to a greater extent than would be necessary to test its properties before returning it - in most cases, if you withdraw from the purchase with Tesla but have already driven a relatively large number of kilometers with the vehicle.
Tesla usually applies 55 cents per kilometer driven, which may be a bit too much. However, you should consider whether the often small sum is worth the potential hassle of an objection.
Experience reports also show that Tesla recognizes up to 20 percent of the purchase price as a loss if the vehicle has already been registered. However, this demand is exaggerated and should be completely rejected. Experience shows that Tesla then waives the claim without much trouble. If Tesla does not repay the purchase price within the deadline, it is advisable to consult a lawyer in the worst-case scenario - Tesla usually has to pay the costs for this.
If you're not sure whether you want to cancel your Tesla order, take a look at the many Tesla benefits and the great community in Germany - maybe you'll reconsider.

Also weiter warten?
