The Tesla app is usually pretty handy. But what if it suddenly reports that the vehicle can no longer be driven? This happens more frequently with the Model Y in particular. We explain what exactly the problem is.
Tesla Model Y glitch: the problem
Tesla drivers keep reporting that their Model Y has a malfunction and can no longer be driven, according to a message that appears out of the blue in the app. Often, the car can no longer even be opened and no longer establishes contact with the app.
The culprit here is the low-voltage battery ("12-volt battery"), which is either defective itself or can no longer work correctly with the high-voltage system due to defective connections, inverters or fuses. This means that the on-board electronics can no longer be supplied with power - all functions fail.
Model Y "dead": the solution
Whoever suffers this fate is unfortunately usually dependent on a Tesla service center. Repairing the damage yourself is not realistic in most cases.
However, the following trick is still helpful when it comes to "waking up" the Tesla at the moment of a breakdown so that it can at least be towed away: Hidden behind the cover of the front towing eye/towing eye are two terminals to which an "external low-voltage power supply" can be connected, as Tesla writes.
This can e.g. B. a portable jump starter or, in an emergency, the 12 V battery of another vehicle. Once the voltage source is connected, the frunk unlocks and the Tesla can be opened again.
