Tesla Model Y: Leistungsabfall im Überholmanöver

Tesla Model Y: Loss of performance in overtaking maneuvers

The Model Y sometimes experiences a brief power interruption during acceleration. – a dangerous situationWhat are the reasons?

Anyone who accelerates (either by pressing the accelerator or the electric motor) rightly expects the vehicle to accelerate smoothly. But Tesla's Model Y sometimes has a mind of its own – why?

Tesla Model Y brakes during acceleration

The problem: Sometimes, during acceleration, the Model Y momentarily cuts power for no apparent reason. For the driver, who has their foot fully on the accelerator, this is surprising, annoying, and, in the case of an overtaking maneuver, also extremely dangerous.

Less annoying and dangerous, but extremely practical, is our Model Y Accessories.

No power during acceleration: Possible causes

The reason for the surprise is usually the assistance systems, which aim to avoid a perceived or actual dangerous situation.

Obstacle-dependent acceleration

The first of these systems is obstacle-dependent acceleration, which is designed to prevent collisions at low speeds and is therefore only active below 16 km/h. If you regularly experience a lack of power when accelerating from a standstill, deactivating the system under Vehicle Settings could be the solution.&Autopilot could be a solution.

Autopilot

Above 16 km/h, the autopilot or its subsystems, such as adaptive cruise control or lane keeping assist, can act as a hindrance. Check whether parts of these systems are active when the problem occurs and could be developing a mind of their own.

Emergency systems

You cannot permanently deactivate the Model Y's emergency collision avoidance systems. If these are activated, there is initially no way to avoid the brief drop in performance (although hard acceleration of the accelerator pedal overrides the systems).

Tesla seems to give its emergency systems quite a lot of leeway, and false alarms unfortunately still occur relatively frequently. In such cases, the only recourse is to file a complaint with Tesla.
