Unacceptable manufacturing defects are among the teething problems that Tesla has fortunately overcome for some time now. However, minor issues still seem to exist – for example, noises occur in the area of the rearview mirror in the Tesla Model Y.
The problem: Annoying rattling
Several Model Y drivers are reporting a rattling noise that seems to be coming from the front camera or rearview mirror in their vehicles, some of which are nearly new. The intensity varies depending on driving speed, road surface, and temperature, but the disturbance is always present.
How do I fix the Tesla Model Y noises?
Anyone else plagued by this problem should first narrow down the possible cause. Is the noise really coming from the suspected area, or are there loose objects in the center console or even the frunk?
Decorative elements such as the decorative wood trim (if installed) can also become noise sources if they are not completely secure. This can be quickly determined by gently tapping on the elements.
If, however, the rattling actually originates from the camera area – which can often be reproduced by tapping on the corresponding cover – then, according to the experience of numerous Tesla drivers, a component beneath the camera cover is to blame. This component vibrates against the windshield and thus causes the perceived noise.
Solve it yourself or let Tesla do it?
The solution in this case is often a simple piece of foam that is inserted between the component and the windshield. Since the outer cover must be removed for this, there are two options.

However, it's important to note that Tesla typically doesn't cover mere noises under warranty, especially if the vehicle is older than a year. Therefore, you will be responsible for the repair costs.
