Unacceptable manufacturing defects are among the teething troubles that Tesla has fortunately overcome for some time now. However, minor problems still seem to exist - for example, noises occur in the Tesla Model Y in the area of the interior mirror.
The problem: annoying rattling
Several Model Y drivers report a rattling noise that seems to come from the direction of the front camera or the interior mirror in their vehicles, some of which are almost new. The intensity varies depending on driving speed, road surface and temperature, but the noise is always present.
How do you fix the Tesla Model Y noise?
If you are also plagued by this problem, you should first narrow down the possible cause. Is the noise really coming from the suspected area or are there loose objects in the center console or even in the frunk?
Decorative elements such as the decorative wood trim (if fitted) can also become sources of noise if they are not completely fixed in place. This can be found out quickly by tapping lightly on the elements.
On the other hand, if the rattling actually comes from the camera area - which can often also be reproduced by tapping on the corresponding cover - numerous Tesla drivers have found that a component underneath the camera cover is to blame. This vibrates against the windshield and thus causes the perceived noise.
Solve it yourself or let Tesla do it?
The solution in this case is often a simple piece of foam that is inserted between the component and the windshield. As the outer cover has to be removed for this, there are two options.
You can either solve the problem yourself - and therefore at your own risk - with the help of instructions that can be found in abundance on popular video portals on the internet. And while you're at it, you can also do something for your privacy with the Teslabs interior camera cover .
Alternatively, you can make an appointment at the Tesla Service Center or with a mobile ranger and have the problem solved by professionals. Read more about the appointment with a Tesla Ranger here.
However, it should be borne in mind that mere noises are not usually covered by the Tesla warranty, especially if the vehicle is more than one year old. You are therefore responsible for the costs of the repair.
