What is the GHG quota?
The GHG quota (greenhouse gas reduction quota) is an energy policy instrument introduced in 2015 and part of emissions trading. In short, this means that there is a fixed (annually decreasing) budget of emission rights for climate-damaging gases. Companies that want to emit such gases have to buy or acquire the corresponding rights. trade with each other.
It has long been the case that climate-friendly companies sell their unneeded rights to "dirtier" companies, and Tesla has already made a tidy profit. As of this year, however, private individuals can also participate in this trade, provided they are the owner of a purely electric car ("Electric" entry in the P field).3 of the vehicle registration document). Hybrid vehicles, on the other hand, are not eligible.
How much can Tesla drivers get?
In theory, buyers and sellers can freely negotiate a price for the rights. In practice, however, specialized providers collect the rights from many private individuals for a commission, have them certified by the Federal Environment Agency and then sell them in large quantities to interested companies. This significantly reduces the effort for both sides.
One of these providers, which offers particularly simple processing and a commission rate well below the market average, is Elektrovorteil.de. As a Tesla driver, you can receive up to 400 euros per year. All you have to do is upload a copy of your vehicle registration document.
What to look out for?
The owner of the GHG quota is always the vehicle owner, which is verified via the vehicle registration document. At the moment, it is not necessary to prove that you have actually driven the vehicle or charged it - but this may well change in the future. Important: The quota can only be sold once a year and is tied to the vehicle. So if you have bought a used car and the previous owner has already sold their GHG quota, you will have to wait until next year before you can make your claim again.
