The battery is by far the most valuable component in a Tesla – accordingly, it becomes very expensive when it breaks, and therefore gentle handling is crucial. Charging habitsFortunately, the Tesla battery warranty covers a generous usage period.
But what if this Tesla warranty also expires at some point?
Tesla Battery Warranty: These are the terms and conditions
Depending on the model, Tesla guarantees the battery's functionality for varying mileage ranges. However, for all models, the Tesla warranty expires after eight years at the latest, regardless of the mileage at that time.
Furthermore, if the battery capacity falls below 70% of its original value at the time of purchase within the respective warranty period, Tesla will replace the battery with one that maintains at least this 70% until the end of the warranty period.
However, this promise should be taken with a grain of salt: If the drop below the 70% capacity threshold is due to a software update, which Tesla can install at any time to protect the battery, the warranty does not apply.
Tesla Model 3 battery warranty: up to 192,000 kilometers
The Tesla Model 3 battery warranty period is determined by the drive type. Models with pure rear-wheel drive are guaranteed. The car manufacturer guarantees a healthy battery for a maximum of 160,000 kilometers, while all-wheel drive provides a guaranteed range of 192,000 kilometers. Considering the eight-year limit, this is relatively generous, as one would have to drive over 24,000 kilometers per year to reach the mileage limit before the time limit expires.
Tesla Model Y Battery Warranty
The Model Y behaves the same way as its smaller sibling, the Model 3. The standard rear-wheel-drive model comes with a 160,000 kilometer battery warranty, while the all-wheel-drive "Long Range" and "Performance" models have a 192,000 kilometer warranty.
Tesla Battery Warranty: Model S and X have the longest coverage.
Tesla claims the longest lifespan for the batteries in the Model S and X: The battery is guaranteed against failure for a full 240,000 kilometers, which, calculated over eight years, equates to an annual mileage of 30,000 kilometers. When you spend that much time in the car, many a comfortable feature makes perfect sense. Accesories definitely.
Tesla battery warranty expired
Fortunately, Tesla's warranty period is relatively generous. But what happens when the warranty eventually expires? Well, nothing will happen initially. As long as the car is running and still has a reasonable range, there's no problem.
It only becomes expensive when the battery loses significant capacity or breaks down completely – often more than €20,000 for a single battery. new battery pack Including installation. But how likely is that, really? Since most Tesla Since these vehicles are not yet eight years old, large amounts of data are not yet available. However, initial user reports, for example on YouTube, show that the battery capacity only decreases by about 10% even after hundreds of thousands of kilometers.
You can analyze the condition of your battery using the Tesla Health Check. Simply go to Service Mode (Settings menu - ).&Software -&Hold down the vehicle name button -&Enter "Service" in the search bar and select the Health Check under "High Voltage". This can take up to 24 hours; the result indicates how much the battery capacity has already decreased. Alternatively, the battery can be fully charged and then run down to empty. The remaining battery capacity can then be calculated from the consumption and the distance traveled.
Have you had any experience with the Tesla warranty, or is your Tesla old enough to no longer be covered? Tell us about it in the comments!
