If you accelerate or apply power, you rightly expect the vehicle to accelerate continuously. But Tesla's Model Y sometimes has an opinion of its own - why?
Tesla Model Y brakes when accelerating
The problem: Sometimes the Model Y cuts power for a moment when accelerating for no apparent reason. For the driver who is at full throttle, this is surprising, annoying and, in the event of an overtaking maneuver, also extremely dangerous.
Our Model Y accessories are less annoying and dangerous, but extremely practical.
No power when accelerating: Possible causes
The reason for the surprise is usually the assistance systems, which want to avoid a supposed or actual dangerous situation.
Obstacle-dependent acceleration
The first of these systems is obstacle-dependent acceleration, which is designed to prevent collisions in the low-speed range and is therefore only active below 16 km/h. If you regularly lack power when accelerating from a standstill, deactivating the system under Vehicle -> Autopilot could be a solution.
Autopilot
Above 16 km/h, the autopilot or its subsystems such as adaptive cruise control or lane departure warning can act as a spoilsport. Check whether parts of these systems are active when the problem occurs and can develop a life of their own.
Emergency systems
You cannot permanently deactivate the Model Y's emergency systems for collision avoidance. If these strike, there is initially no way to avoid the brief drop in power (although pressing the accelerator pedal hard overrides the systems again).
Tesla seems to give the emergency systems quite a lot of leeway and false alarms unfortunately still occur relatively frequently. At best, a complaint to Tesla will help here.
