Some Model Y drivers report that their Tesla horn is very quiet - not only inside the car, but also outside. This is of course suboptimal for road safety. But where does the cause lie
Tesla horn: The problem
If you have problems with your Tesla Model Y horn, you won't necessarily notice it immediately. Sometimes the pump is only too quiet in certain situations, sometimes the deficit is only noticeable in comparison with other cars - but then it can often no longer be ignored or rather "underheard".
By the way: If the horn is already too quiet, you can at least make your surroundings look luxurious with the Teslabs Alcantara steering wheel!
Tesla horn sound: Possible causes
If you are dissatisfied with the power of your horn, you should first venture into the depths of the settings menu. If the "Joe mode" is activated there, the volume of numerous noises, including possibly the horn, is drastically reduced. Read more about Tesla Joe Mode here!
Another cause may lie in the installed hardware. In the 2022 production year, Tesla switched from a "normal" horn to a loudspeaker that only imitates the sound of a horn.
Some Tesla drivers also report that this technology is susceptible to wet conditions. In other words, if the loudspeaker gets wet due to heavy rain, the horn is noticeably quieter than when it is dry. Should this suspicion be confirmed, it would of course be extremely embarrassing for Tesla and could result in a recall campaign.
