How does the Tesla heat pump work?

How much more range thanks to the heat pump?

The heat pump offers an efficient way to reduce energy consumption in the Tesla. The actual benefit varies depending on the situation and vehicle, but savings of 5-15 percent can be expected on average.

This advantage increases the slower you travel, especially on longer distances such as cross-country journeys. Fast driving, on the other hand, can greatly reduce the effect of the heat pump. The greatest benefit is seen on longer journeys, as short journeys often require so much additional heating that the heat pump has no significant effect.

Important: The heat pump is only effective at temperatures above -10 degrees Celsius. If it is even colder outside, an additional electric heater is activated to warm the interior.

Tesla models with heat pump

The Model Y was the first model to be equipped with a heat pump as standard. The basic version of the Model 3 has had a heat pump since the first quarter of 2021. The Model 3 Long Range has even had the component since the fourth quarter of 2020.

Heat pumps will be installed in the refresh versions of the Model S and X flagship cars from 2021.

So all new Tesla vehicles - Model S, 3, X, Y - now have a heat pump.

A retrofit is most likely to be costly and time-consuming. Furthermore, it cannot be guaranteed  that the same performance and efficiency can be achieved as with the newer models.

Hatte die Tesla Wärmepumpe immer so verstanden, dass Sie das einzige Wärmepumpensystem ist, welches OHNE elektrische Zusatzheizung bei niedrigen Temperaturen auskommt und dadurch noch effizienter ist.
Wo befindet sich die elektrische Zusatzheizung, konnte diese in verschiedenen Dokumentationen bisher nirgends finden.
