Tesla not only offers an excellent electric driving experience, but also a host of hidden features and Easter Eggs that can be extremely helpful or simply entertaining. Let us introduce you to 10 of these features.
10 hidden Tesla functions
Prioritize devices
If you have created two or more driver profiles in the Tesla and linked each to a smartphone, it can happen that the wrong profile is selected if both smartphones are in the car. As a result, the seat position and the steering wheel are set incorrectly, which is not very comfortable.
The solution: You can prioritize a device in the Bluetooth settings. This means that this device is always selected first if there are several smartphones to choose from - ideal if the same person is usually driving with several passengers.
Remote access
You're on vacation and you remember that the Tesla is at home in front of the garage? And now you receive a message that a storm with hail showers is approaching? Tesla has a solution: tap on Vehicle -> Start in the app. This unlocks the Tesla for two minutes so that your neighbor or another trusted person can quickly drive into the garage.
Share destination address
Have you found a delicious restaurant or a good hotel on Google Maps that you want to visit? Using the "Share" button, you can easily load the destination address into your vehicle's navigation system by selecting the Tesla app, without having to do anything yourself. The whole thing even works before you've even got in - clever, isn't it?
Full-screen entertainment
If you like to use streaming services in your Tesla but don't want to or can't access the built-in services such as Netflix, you can navigate to ABetterTheater in the browser. This page can also be used to play other services such as Amazon Prime in full-screen mode - of course only when the vehicle is in park.
Automatic parking
With the FSD package or "Enhanced Autopilot", Tesla drivers have a special feature at their disposal: Tapping the park button on the gear lever twice activates what is known as Autopark. A message appears on the display, allowing you to select the desired direction (forwards or backwards).
Now you can get out and the vehicle will drive itself into the parking space. This is particularly helpful if you want to drive into a small garage where there is little space to get out. Simply park in front of it and let the Tesla do the rest.
Totwinkel-Kameras
If you want to check your blind spot on the highway before changing lanes, you can't do this quite as easily as with some other brands by looking at the warning light in the wing mirror.
Yet there is another option: a tap on the camera lens in the left part of the screen shows the images from the reversing and blind spot cameras on the display, so you can easily see whether a lane change is currently possible or whether you would have overlooked a vehicle next to you.
More precise range information
The remaining range displayed is always an estimate based on the usual driving style and average consumption over many kilometers. If you want a more precise figure, you can display a value based on the last few kilometers in the energy app.
This is particularly helpful if you are currently experiencing high consumption and there is no improvement in sight - for example in winter or when driving long distances through the mountains.
Maximum security through multi-factor authentication
To maximize your account security, you can activate multi-factor authentication in the profile settings. This means that, in addition to your password, you will also need a code generated by an authenticator app on your smartphone to log into your Tesla account. Incidentally, Tesla does not care which of these third-party apps (e.g. Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator) you use.
Blinker stoppen
It has probably happened to every driver: You turn your indicator by mistake or in the wrong direction, and to rectify the mistake you quickly push the blinker lever in the other direction, but this only makes matters worse. Embarrassed, you drive off and hope that you haven't confused the other drivers too much.
Well, if you know how to stop the blinker correctly next time: with Tesla, all you have to do is briefly press the blinker lever once in the same direction, not the opposite direction.
Adjusting the Autopilot speed
The Tesla Autopilot automatically recognizes the current speed limit and sets this speed as the upper limit for the cruise control. In the Autopilot menu, however, it is possible to influence this process and, for example, set the vehicle to always drive 5 km/h above or below the permitted speed - depending on your personal preference.
If you want to make even better use of your Tesla in addition to the hidden functions, you can do so with suitable accessories such as a centre console organizeror a charging socket coverto keep you organized and protected at all times.
