Tesla is one of the pioneers in the field of autonomous driving and has long since installed the corresponding functionalities in its vehicles. A very important part of this is the so-called steering assistant.
It is relevant for all Tesla drivers because it is installed in every Tesla - it is not necessary to purchase an additional Autopilot package.
In principle, the steering assistant is a system that automatically steers to keep the vehicle in the lane without the driver having to do anything. Once it has been activated in the autopilot settings, it can be started in suitable environmental conditions by pressing the gear lever down twice.
However, this only works between 30 and 150 km/h; outside this speed range, the driver must take over. The only exception: if the steering assistant detects another vehicle in front of it, it can take over from 0 km/h.
It can be stopped e.g. B. by braking, steering or by moving the gear lever upwards.
