Have you bought a Tesla, just picked it up and can hardly wait to finally get started with e-mobility? Congratulations!
But before you get started, it makes sense to set up and configure a few things in the Tesla. This article looks at what is available here and what options you have.
The optimal Tesla configuration
Fahrerprofile
Various driver profiles can be created in each Tesla, which can save and automatically adjust settings such as seat position, mirrors, lighting and temperature preferences for different drivers. On initial commissioning or After customizing the vehicle, the Tesla prompts you to create an initial driver profile.
You can also create additional profiles via Driver profile settings -> Add driver, which is particularly helpful if different drivers regularly use your Tesla. Tip: If you activate the "Use Easy Entry" checkbox, the vehicle moves the steering wheel and seat into a position that makes it easier to get in and out as soon as you park or open the door.
Handyschlüssel verbinden
In addition to the "normal" keys and key cards, you can also use your smartphone as a car key with Tesla. To do this, activate Bluetooth, navigate to Mobile Key -> Start in the Tesla smartphone app and scan an already valid key on the card reader in the center console - if successful, the app will send a message.
By the way: In the driver profile settings, you can link any type of key to a driver profile. The profile matching the key is then automatically activated when you get in.
Connecting your cell phone via Bluetooth
If you use your smartphone as a key, Bluetooth must be activated at all times - so it makes sense to establish a media connection with the vehicle at the same time. You do this via the Bluetooth symbol -> Add device -> Start search. As soon as you are connected, you can divert your calls to the hands-free system, access your calendar or play media files from your phone.
WLAN einrichten
In order to receive software updates reliably, it can be useful to connect the Tesla to a WLAN network (e.g. B. the home network) so that you have Internet access at night when you are parked - especially if you live in an area with weak mobile phone reception.
To add Wi-Fi, tap the Wi-Fi icon in the top right-hand corner of the vehicle screen and select the desired network. Of course, this is only possible if you are within range of the WLAN network.
Seat, steering wheel, side mirrors and rear-view mirror
As with many manufacturers, you adjust the driver's seat electrically using buttons located on the left-hand side of the seat between the door and the seat. You can adjust the position of the seat and the inclination of the backrest separately. Your vehicle may also have a lumbar support that you can also adjust.
Adjusting the steering wheel position works slightly differently with Tesla than with other manufacturers. First navigate to Vehicle -> Steering symbol. You can now use the left-hand scroll wheel on the steering wheel to set the desired position by pressing it up, down, left or right.
The procedure is similar for the side mirrors: You can select the ideal position via vehicle -> mirror and again the left scroll wheel. The rear-view mirror, on the other hand, still has to be adjusted manually in the same way. Tip: Every time you adjust the steering wheel, mirrors or seats, your Tesla will ask you whether you want to apply the new settings to the currently active driver profile. You can confirm or ignore this.
Displayeinstellungen
The next important point is the touch display setting. Here you can set the desired brightness (or let the Tesla decide for itself by selecting "Auto"), choose whether the battery level should be displayed as a percentage or the remaining distance, which clock format you prefer, and so on.
Lenkmodus
You can choose between three steering modes - Comfort, Standard or Sport-, which essentially influence how hard or slow the steering is. the steering wheel is easy to turn. To do this, navigate to Vehicle -> Pedals & Steering -> Steering mode and make your decision. If you tend to ride in the city, the comfort setting is the best choice. If, on the other hand, you like to drive fast on winding country roads, you will be happier with the Sport mode.
Give your Tesla a name
For all those for whom a car is a personal matter: Under Vehicle -> Software you can give your Tesla a name. This then appears in the Tesla app, among other things.
Save home and work address
You can save frequently visited locations such as your home or place of work as shortcuts so that you don't have to re-enter them in the navigation every day. To do this, tap on the search bar in the navigation bar, then on Home address and enter your address. Proceed in the same way for the work address.
If you now hold down the search bar and drag to the right or down, the Tesla will automatically calculate the route to your home address. Tip: In addition to your home and work addresses, you can also save other frequently visited locations as favorites. To do this, touch the location on the map, then the star symbol and then "Add favorite".
Equip your Tesla with basic accessories
Finally, it makes sense to equip your Tesla with some products that make it more practical and robust. For example, a centre console organizer, a display protection film or a mat for the frunk or Trunk that preserve the new car feeling of your Tesla for as long as possible.
