Tesla is a pioneer in autonomous driving and has long incorporated corresponding functionalities into its vehicles. A very important component of this is the so-called lane keeping assist.
It is relevant for all Tesla drivers because it is installed in every Tesla – the purchase of an additional Autopilot package is not necessary.
Essentially, the lane keeping assist is a system that automatically steers the vehicle to keep it in its lane without driver input. Once activated in the autopilot settings, it can be engaged under suitable environmental conditions by pressing the gear selector down twice.
However, this only works between 30 and 150 km/h; outside this speed range, the driver must take over. The only exception is that if the steering assist system detects another vehicle in front of it, it can take over from 0 km/h.
