If you charge your Tesla at home, you may have wondered how many amps to use. Find out here!
Tesla Model 3 Ampere – how much?
When charging at home, there are basically two limiting factors: the battery in the vehicle and the electrical wiring in the house.
In order to charge the Tesla battery gently, they should not only not be completely fully load, but theoretically also with as little current as possible. For this reason, charging at a Tesla Supercharger (several hundred amps) is actually rather harmful.
However, since charging takes longer the lower the current, and charging losses increase at very low currents, 12–13 amps is a good compromise. This is also gentler on the electrical wiring than charging continuously at 16 amps and risking a cable fire – especially if you are charging from a standard household socket.
