A misaligned tailgate on the new Tesla Model Y Juniper is causing frustration – and rightly so. If the tailgate isn't properly aligned, it not only affects the aesthetics but can also lead to damage to the paint and seals.
But don't worry: In this article, we'll show you how to fix the problem yourself or when you should visit Tesla service.
Why is the tailgate crooked?
There can be many reasons for the uneven gap:
-
Incorrect hinge adjustment from the factory
-
Rubber buffer screwed in too far
-
Locking latch not positioned correctly
-
Production-related tolerances in fairings
Step-by-step instructions: How to adjust the tailgate correctly
1. Check the seals and the fit of the flap.
-
Close the tailgate completely.
-
Shine a flashlight into the gap to reveal any visible gaps.
2. Adjust the rubber buffers
-
Turn each rubber buffer out a quarter turn.
-
Then check if the tailgate closes better.
3. Reposition the hinges
-
Carefully remove the interior trim of the tailgate.
-
Loosen the hinge screws slightly and readjust the flap.
-
Tighten the screws again (approx. 24 Nm).
4. Adjust the locking latch
-
Loosen the catch hook on the bodywork.
-
Move it slightly outwards.
-
Check that the flap clicks into place cleanly and securely.
