Tesla jack pads and adapters: Safely change tires on Model 3 and Y.
Switching to a Tesla changes a lot of things in the life of a vehicle owner. But some things still exist - and changing tires is one of them. In contrast to the combustion engine, however, the correct use of the jack deserves special attention, as otherwise the battery installed in the floor can be damaged.
Fortunately, there are special accessories that ensure the safety of your Model 3 or Model Y battery.
Tesla Model 3/Y jack: these are the requirements
Since even the comparatively small Model 3 requires more than 1.900 kilograms, a stable jack with the largest possible contact surface over which the weight is distributed is a basic requirement.
In addition, it should not be higher than 100 mm when retracted, so that together with the 40 mm high Tesla jack adapter ("Jack Pad") it still fits under the Model 3 with its 140 mm ground clearance.
Tesla Model 3/Y jack: Adapter
You can order a Tesla Model 3/Y jack adapter from us easily and with numerous payment methods.
These are rubber attachments that fit the Tesla Model 3 or Tesla Model 2 perfectly. Model Y and are placed between the jack and the body.
There they protect the vehicle and especially the battery from damage and distribute the weight evenly over the jack thanks to their large diameter (7.5 cm).
And even if your car needs to be lifted in the workshop, the adapters are helpful - because the mechanics themselves often don't have a Tesla Model 3/Y Jack Pad that fits perfectly.
Changing tires on the Tesla: how it works
So how exactly do you go about changing a tire? Typically, it starts with software: as you might expect, there is no direct Tesla tire change mode, but there is a so-called service mode. This deactivates the self-levelling function on vehicles with air suspension.
Be sure to drive the car to the highest suspension position (if possible) before activating service mode.
Then use the operating instructions to locate the specified lifting points on the vehicle and start with any wheel. Attach the Tesla Model 3/Y jack adapter to the appropriate lifting point and place the jack underneath.
Use brake blocks to prevent your vehicle from rolling away, especially if you are working on a slope. When lifting, also ensure that the support surface of the jack and the adapter remain in the intended positions and do not slip.
Now change the tire as usual. Bear in mind that the wheel nuts on Tesla vehicles are usually tightened with a relatively high torque.
By the way: If you discover unwanted scratches in the rim when changing the tires, you can remove them easily and cheaply with a rim paint stick - give it a try.
Jack Pad Tesla: Why do I need this?
You may now be asking yourself the question: Why do I even need a jack adapter for my Tesla? Surely it works without one? In principle, that is correct. If you strictly adhere to the specified lifting points, nothing should happen.
If the jack on the Tesla does slip in the relatively small support points and the battery is damaged, this is not only annoying, but can quickly become a fire hazard - in the truest sense of the word.
And even if there are "only" a few scratches in the bodywork, you wish you had used a jack pad afterwards. This reduces the risk of an accident enormously thanks to its precisely fitting shape and, as a rubber layer, also protects the contact points from direct metal-to-metal contact with the jack.
In view of the high potential for damage, the one-off investment in suitable Tesla jack adapters is inexpensive.
Tesla jack: why it is so dangerous for the battery
Why is damage to the battery so bad? Numerous tests and accidents have shown that the installed lithium-ion batteries become very hot and can eventually start to burn if they are punctured or otherwise damaged by an object.
As if that wasn't bad enough, burning battery packs are difficult if not impossible to extinguish, which is why the slipped jack can quickly lead to a total loss.
This does not necessarily mean that it has to be that bad, but the risk does exist - and even minor damage can be expensive and annoying.
Conclusion: Tesla jack adapter as additional protection
Lifting an electric car requires special care and is associated with certain risks even when carried out in accordance with regulations. For this reason, there are custom-fit jack pads for your Tesla Model 3 or Model Y that offer additional protection and safety when changing wheels. This means you can work without fear of battery or bodywork damage and be finished in no time at all.
And even if you leave the replacement to a garage, the mechanics are happy to have the adapters, which they often don't have in stock themselves.
So take a look around our store. The next tire change will come sooner than expected!
