The rebirth of e-mobility
Since his college days, co-founder Musk has wanted to build electric cars for the general public.
In 2003, Tesla, Inc. is founded by Musk, JB Straubel, Martin Eberhard, Marc Tarpenning and Ian Wright in San Carlos, California in the USA. The journey of electric mobility in the 21st century begins.

Tesla's first work
With the Tesla Roadster, the electric pioneer is launching its first fully electric car on the market.
The sports car developed with Lotus and AC Propulsion already has an impressive range of around 350 kilometers and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds.

Tesla gets rolling
The Tesla Model S is the first electric car for the broader market.
The luxury sedan already has a range of 442 kilometers in the first version - Tesla will deliver more than 75,000 Model S to customers worldwide by 2015. With over 1 billion kilometers driven, they will have saved around 500,000 tons of CO2 by then.

Tesla's breakthrough
The final breakthrough will come in 2019 with the Tesla Model 3. The electric mid-range saloon provides cheaper access to e-mobility with unprecedented technical specifications.
This is also when Moritz and Leon - the founders of Teslabs - first really became aware of the US car manufacturer.
