You read a lot about Tesla, Elon Musk, and electric mobility in general. More and more cars with the distinctive "T" logo are appearing on German roads, and sales are steadily increasing.
Perhaps you're also considering buying a new car, and maybe even a Tesla. But how exactly does ordering a Tesla work? After all, the Tesla ordering process is quite different from that of other manufacturers.
In this article, we explain how it works and what you need to pay attention to.
Order a Tesla in Germany: One smartphone is all you need
Tesla is a technology company. Accordingly, much of the business, including ordering, takes place entirely online. Theoretically, a smartphone is sufficient, but ordering via laptop or PC is naturally even more convenient.
On the Tesla website, you can configure and order all available models. Compared to the competition, the configuration process is incredibly easy, as there are very few additional options – most features are standard.
Essentially, you have to decide on the desired trim level and a few extras like Autopilot or a tow package. If you order a Tesla Model X or Model S, the trim level primarily determines the range and performance, while if you order a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y, it also determines whether you get all-wheel drive.
Tesla Ordering Process
Once you've found your desired model, you can either order it immediately or first take a test drive, which you can also book online. We've explained how to do that. here In summary. To order, click on "Proceed to payment". You can then choose between the different financing options – bank transfer, leasing or balloon loan – using the button at the bottom of the screen.
Order a Tesla: Waiting time
After selecting your financing method, specify your payment method and click "Buy" – done! A €250 reservation fee is due immediately, after which you just have to wait and start thinking about suitable options. Accesories inform The waiting time isn't actually that long; according to Tesla, many models are delivered within a few weeks. You might have to wait the longest if you order a Tesla Model 3: then it could be November.
How reliable these figures are is questionable. However, it is certain that waiting times – both estimated and actual – have been significantly longer in the past.
Order a Tesla: When to pay?
While you wait for your Tesla, you should create a Tesla account. All further communication will take place through this account. Be sure to use the same email address you used when placing your order. You only need to pay for your Tesla once the final invoice has arrived in your account inbox – but in any case, payment is due before collection.
Once the payment has been received, Tesla will send you the necessary registration documents by mail. You will also be notified of the delivery date via your online account as soon as it is confirmed.
By the way: As long as you haven't received the final invoice, you can still change your order. You can also cancel it and receive a full refund up to 14 days after delivery.
