You read a lot about Tesla, Elon Musk and electromobility in general. More and more cars with the distinctive "T" can be seen on Germany's roads and sales are growing steadily.
Perhaps you too are currently considering whether you should buy a new car and whether it might be a Tesla. But how does the Tesla ordering process actually work? After all, the Tesla ordering process is somewhat different from that of other manufacturers.
In this article, we explain how it works and what you need to look out for.
Tesla order Germany: One smartphone is enough
Tesla is a technology company. Accordingly, many things, including ordering, are done purely via the Internet. In theory, a smartphone is enough, but ordering on a laptop or PC is of course even more convenient.
You can configure and order all available models on the Tesla homepage. However, configuration is child's play compared to the competition, as there are only a few additional options - most of them are standard.
You essentially have to decide on the desired version and a few extras such as the autopilot or a trailer package. If you order a Tesla Model X or a Model S, the version essentially determines range and performance, while if you order a Tesla Model 3 or a Tesla Model Y, it also determines whether you get all-wheel drive.
Tesla order: procedure
Once you have found the model you want, you can either order it straight away or take a test drive first, which you can also book online. We have summarized how to do this here. To order, click on "Continue to payment". You can then choose between the various financing options - bank transfer, leasing or balloon loan - using the button at the bottom of the screen.
Order Tesla: Waiting time
After selecting the financing method, enter your payment method and click on "Buy" - done! A reservation fee of €250 is due immediately, after which you have to wait and find out about suitable accessories. Currently the waiting time is not that long, many models are delivered within a few weeks according to Tesla. You may have to wait the longest if you order a Tesla 3: Then it could be November.
How much one can rely on these figures is questionable. However, it is clear that waiting times - both estimated and actual - have been significantly longer in the past.
Order Tesla: When to pay?
While you are waiting for your Tesla, you should create a Tesla account. Further communication will take place via this account. Make sure you use the same e-mail address as when you placed your order. You only have to pay for your Tesla once you have received the final invoice in your account mailbox - but in any case before you pick it up.
As soon as the money has been received, Tesla will send you the documents required for registration by post. You will also be informed of the delivery date via the online account as soon as it is fixed.
By the way: As long as the final invoice has not yet been sent to you, you can still change your order. You can also cancel them up to 14 days after delivery and have all payments refunded.
