Water in the interior is one of the most unpleasant surprises you can experience in the Tesla Model Y. It becomes particularly annoying when the source of the water is not immediately apparent.

Water in the Tesla Model Y: The problem
The problem, which many Model Y drivers have already experienced, is described in detail in a Forum post Described in the TFF forum.
A Model Y Long Range, produced in Grünheide in October 2022, shows a completely soaked carpet in the rear footwell after a night of rain.
The side areas and door panels remain dry, suggesting that the water did not enter from above via the pillars or through open windows. A tilted position of the parked vehicle (front facing upwards) could also have directed the water to the rear.
The driver rules out the possibility that any doors or windows were open – video recordings confirm that the vehicle was completely closed. A visit to the nearby Tesla Service Center initially provides no clarity, as only sales are open on Saturdays.
A few weeks later, other users in the forum reported similar problems, which were due to leaks in the area of the A-pillars, the longitudinal beams or the underbody.
Possible causes
There can be many reasons for water ingress in the rear footwell of the Model Y:

Leaky A-pillars: Water can enter the vehicle interior along the A-pillars and collect in the rear area.

Leaks in the area of the longitudinal beams or the underbody: Microcracks or faulty seals can cause water to penetrate from below.

Problems with the air conditioning: A blocked or leaking condensate drain can allow water to enter the interior.

Missing or damaged seals: Door and window seals that are not fitted correctly or are damaged can also cause water to enter.
Some users report that Tesla Service Centers were able to identify and seal several leaks after intensive troubleshooting. In some cases, new carpets were installed and the vehicle was thoroughly dried.However, the repair time can take several weeks, depending on the complexity of the problem and the availability of spare parts.
This will make it dry again
If you notice that the rear footwell of your Model Y is wet, you should act immediately:
